The manufacturing platform for Passive Components is centered around semiconductor style industry processes,which have been uniquely adapted for processing of silica-on-silicon and polymer materials. Ignis uses these platforms to produce state-of-the-art Planar Lightwave Circuit (PLC) components.
Planar layers of silica is the same material used in optical fibers, deposited from a plasma under high vacuum, heated to high temperatures then patterned into device structures. The fabricated devices have dimensions and material characteristics similar to those of optical fibers, making them compatible with fiber infrastructure.
